What Cookies Are

Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device when you visit. They help the site work properly, remember your preferences and give the site owner information about how the site is being used. Some similar technologies, such as pixels and local storage, work in a comparable way, and where I refer to cookies in this policy I mean these technologies too.

How I Use Cookies

My website is built on Squarespace, which uses a small number of cookies to keep the site working and to help me understand how visitors use it. Rather than list every individual cookie, which can change over time, I have described them below by the category they fall into and what they do.

Categories of Cookies I Use

•     Strictly necessary cookies. These are essential for the website to work, for example to keep it secure, to let you move around the site and to remember information you enter in forms. The site cannot function properly without them, so they do not require your consent.

•     Functionality and preference cookies. These remember choices you make, such as display preferences, so the site works better for you on your next visit.

•     Analytics cookies. These help me understand how visitors find and use my website, for example which pages are visited and how long people stay. I use this information only in aggregate to improve the site, and not to identify you personally.

If my website includes content from other services, for example a link or embedded item from a social media platform, those services may also set their own cookies. I do not control these, and you should check the relevant provider's own cookie information.

Your Consent and Choices

Following changes to UK law under the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, certain lower risk cookies, such as those used purely for analytics or to improve how the site works, no longer require your prior consent. I still tell you about them here, and you can opt out of them at any time. If I ever used cookies for advertising, or shared information with third parties for advertising purposes, I would ask for your consent first.

How to Manage Cookies

You are always in control of cookies. You can:

•     Change or withdraw your choices through any cookie preferences shown on my website

•     Control and delete cookies through your browser settings, and set your browser to warn you about or refuse cookies

Please note that if you block all cookies, some parts of my website may not work as well as they should.

You can find clear guidance on managing cookies in your particular browser within that browser's help pages, and general guidance is available from the Information Commissioner's Office at www.ico.org.uk.

Changes to This Policy

Cookie use and the law around it continue to evolve, so I may update this policy from time to time. The most current version will always be posted on my website, and I would encourage you to check back when you visit.
